Top Skiers
of All Time
John and Dan Egan
- "They were quick on their feet and even quicker to flash a
grin. Warren Miller discovered John and Dan Egan pounding bumps
at Sugarbush, Vermont, in 1978, and the bros would become what
Miller called “the ATVs of the ski world” – guys skilled enough
to go anywhere, from Siberia to Turkey to Greenland. Their
famous death-escape when a house-sized cornice at Grand Targhee
broke away beneath them in a 1990 film became the single most
used segment in Warren Miller’s career. They succeeded on both
sides of the camera, producing more than a dozen movies and a
syndicated television show. And they remain apostles for the
sport – John as head of Sugarbush’s Adventure Learning Center
and Dan as head on Egan Entertainment." - Powder Magazine,
Dec 2006
Dan Egan has
appeared in 12 Warren Miller films. Powder Magazine named him
one of the "Top Skiers of All Time." His "Wild
World of Winter" airs on NECN Saturday's at 4:30pm.

east, the Penobscot enjoys a reputation as a river of
contrasts as it alternates between exhilarating rapids and
breathtaking scenery. Whether you're running the class V
Exterminator or surfing a hole on the lower river, the
Penobscot delivers a full day of first-class adventure on its
14-mile journey from Ripogenus Gorge.
Located six hours north of Boston, this wilderness
playground is not for the faint of heart. Yet for those
willing to invest the extra travel time, you will be rewarded
with one of New England's finest untouched gems.
Please note, that because of the highly exciting nature of
Penobscot River trips, these adventures are not suitable for
young children. Participants must be 15 years or over to raft

Penobscot Outdoor Center
Known fondly as POC, the Penobscot Outdoor Center is the
operating base for our Penobscot River adventures. Located on
Pockwockamus Pond, just two miles from the south entrance to
Baxter State Park, POC sits conveniently under the shadow of
mile high Mount Katahdin.
POC provides wilderness camping and cabin tent
accommodations served by clean, modern facilities. The main
pavilion features the Katahdin Grill, which offers great food
in a casual atmosphere. There's a full service bar, hot tub
and sauna to relax those weary muscles after a day out on the
river.
For a truly world-class, multi-sport adventure, raft the
river then stay over and explore over 200 miles of maintained
hiking trails in neighboring Baxter State Park.
